Poetry Flash was started by Professor Jon Ford and writing students at San Francisco State University in 1972. The current
editor and publisher is Joyce Jenkins, who joined the organization in 1978. In addition to publication of the magazine and
hosting local readings, the organization presents the annual Northern California Book Awards, and sponsors the Watershed Poetry
Festival in Berkeley, California.
